Dana E. Keil's Bio Page
- I majored in International Relations at Syracuse University.
- I always wanted to do something international. I quickly came to realize that being a Foreign Service diplomat probably wasn't for me.
- I went to graduate school in Anthropology at Northwestern University.
- Avoiding the draft and the Vietnam War was part of the reason for going to graduate school right away, I always wonder what would have been different if there had been no draft and no war on right then.
- I went to Papua New Guinea to do dissertation research.
- Although I had thought a lot about Africa as a geographic area, I met Professor L.L. Langness at Northwestern and decided to go to the New Guinea Highlands to do anthropological research for my Ph.D. dissertation. I lived in a Highlands valley called Benabena with people who are also called Benabena. I lived at the northern end of the valley, Langness had lived in the southern part of the valley.
